Manfredy KOs Grove

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Nov 18, 1995 - 21:01 EST) -- Angel Manfredy scored a seventh-round knockout Saturday over Calvin Grove in a super featherweight bout.

Manfredy, 21, of Gary, Ind., was behind on points when he erupted with a 10-second flurry of punches that left Grove dazed and weak-kneed on the ropes, prompting referee Tony Orlando to stop the fight at 2:55 of the seventh round.

The victory boosted Manfredy's record to 13-2-1. Grove, 33, of Pottstown, Pa., dropped to 47-8.

The fight at Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort was billed as the World Boxing Union super featherweight championship.

In the co-feature, unbeaten welterweight Wilfredo Rivera posted a second-round knockout of Steve Larrimore. Rivera, 26, of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, was dominating Larrimore when referee Wayne Hedgpeth suddenly stopped the fight at 2:40 despite no apparent damage to Larrimore and no knockdowns.

Rivera boosted his record to 23-0-1. Larrimore, 31, of Nassau, Bahamas, dropped to 21-17.

On the undercard, junior middlweight Ernie Artango of Queensland, Australia defeated Ricardo Smith of Syracuse, N.Y., in a fight called after the seventh round.

Also, junior middleweight Skipper Kelp of Saigon scored a fifth-round knockout over James McCray of Philadelphia.
